The Penya Blaugrana Dracs Units, founded by Barcelona’s Chinese community, once again played a leading role in FC Barcelona’s Chinese New Year celebrations as the club joined Asian communities around the world in welcoming the Lunar New Year, which in 2026 is symbolised by the horse.

True to tradition, the Penya Blaugrana Dracs Units delivered a spectacular dragon and lion dance performance ahead of the match against Levante, a cultural expression symbolising prosperity and good fortune for the year ahead. The visually striking display captivated the Barça fans and transformed the esplanade at the Spotify Camp Nou into a vibrant space of intercultural celebration.

This year, the penya also introduced three robots for the first time, one humanoid and one dog-like robot wearing the penya’s shirt, and two dressed as lions, attracting the attention of young and old alike and adding an innovative touch to the festivities.

The penya’s children also played a prominent role by accompanying the players onto the pitch to mark the arrival of the New Year in memorable fashion.

The Penya Blaugrana Dracs Units, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, brings together Barcelona’s Chinese community. Its members say that supporting Barça has helped them integrate more fully into the city and Catalan culture, building a bridge between the two communities.
