FC Barcelona once again raises rainbow flag to celebrates LGTBI Pride Day

Two flags are flying over the Palau Blaugrana to honour the club's commitment to sexual and gender diversity

International LGTBI Pride Day is being celebrated today as it is every June 28, the date on which FC Barcelona joins the rest of the world in expressing its commitment to defending the rights of the LGTBI community. The rainbow flag is proudly flying at the ground, this year at the Palau Blaugrana. Last year, it was placed at the Estadi Johan Cruyff and the year before that at Spotify Camp Nou, and now is the turn of the indoor sports arena to house the symbol of sexual diversity throughout the day.

The chosen flag is the Intersex-Inclusive Pride Progress variant, which highlights the diverse identities of the community by adding brown and black to represent the inclusion of all races, along with pink, sky blue and white, representing transgender people, and a yellow and black triangle and a purple circle to honour intersex people.

Against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia

FC Barcelona's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Department ensures that all types of diversities are integrated as part of the club's organisational culture, and strives to offer exposure to all the different groups.

The club has worked hard promote diversity and respect for sport, and was recognised with the diversity in sport award from the Love Rights association on the Day of the Fight against LGTBI-phobia in Sports last February 19, the very first event organised by Love Rights in Barcelona.

In memory of the injustice at Stonewall Inn

International LGTBI Pride Day commemorates the events at Stonewall in 1969 in New York, which marked the beginning of the campaign for homosexual liberation, when the gay community forcefully rebelled against the institutional and social repression it was suffering.

The first Pride demonstration was held in New York on 28 June 1970. In 1977. La Rambla in Barcelona was the setting for ​​the first demonstration for LGTBI rights in Spain.
