FC Barcelona 0-2 Noia Freixenet: Out of the cup

The Barça roller hockey team have said goodbye to the Copa del Rey after losing 0-2 to Noia Freixenet at the quarterfinal stage. The woodwork frustrated the blaugranes throughout, while Noia took their chances.

Even first half

It was the first game in the Copa del Rey, with both sides showing each other respect, and the parity was evident in the first half. The blaugranes had to get through a tough moment when Marc Grau was shown a blue card, but his brother Carlos saved the direct free hit and his teammates handled the two minute penalty period well.

All the same, Barça went on to have very clear chances, Sergi Aragonés and Alabart both hitting the post just before the break, while Matías Pascual, Pablo Álvarez and Ferran Font all had efforts too. Carles Grau showed assurance at the other end, so it was goalless at the break.

Noia more effective

Another blaugrana effort by Xavi Barroso hit the woodwork after the restart, not long before Toni Salvadó oponed the scoring for the visitors (0-1, min. 34). David Cáceres' side were up against it but couldn't find a goal of their own. Carles Grau went on to save a penalty, but Xavi Aragonés fired into the top corner for the second (0-2, min. 42).

Remaining in the cup would take something special and the chance came via a direct free hit. Noia had the first opportunity, but Martí Gabarró hit the post. Barça then could have got one back with their own through Ferran Font but it wasn't to be. The best chance gone and further attempts frustrated, and the blaugranes ended up exiting the Copa del Rey at the first hurdle.
