Iñigo Martinez contract extended to 2026

Agreement in place from both parties for months, but registration with the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional was pending

The option to extend the contract of first team player Iñigo Martinez has been triggered by FC Barcelona and he is set to remain with the Club until 30 June 2026. Both parties had reached agreement months earlier, but registration with the Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP) was pending.

FC Barcelona expresses its satisfaction at having secured the Basque defender's services for an additional season.

Iñigo Martinez's contract extension just shows how important the centre back is in Hansi Flick's plans. The Basque player joined Barça in the summer of 2023 from Athletic Club and after playing more of a supporting role in his first season, with 25 appearances (20 in LaLiga, 4 in the Champions League and 1 in the Copa del Rey), his second season has seen him become a starting defender.

A combination of experience, leadership, and good performances on the pitch have seen him earn the trust of both squad and coach. The progression has been clear since the start of the season. To date he has played 33 games – starting 32 of them – scoring 3 goals and providing 4 assists. He also won his first trophy as a blaugrana this season in the form of the Spanish Super Cup.
