Peña Barcelonista de Segorbe celebrates 60th anniversary and hosts 12th Meeting of Penyas in Castellón

On Friday 1 and Saturday 2 July, the Peña Barcelonista de Segorbe celebrated its 60th anniversary and also hosted the 12th Meeting of Supporters Clubs of Castellón.

The events began on Friday with a conference on the latest happenings at Barça attended by around 200 people. The speakers were former players Juan Manuel Asensi, Ricardo Serna and Joan Josep Estella. Afterwards, the attendees ended the day with a gala dinner.

Big day on Saturday

The next day, July 2, brought the ceremonial events that are so typical of such gatherings. In the morning, Jordi Casals, president of Barça Atlètic, as the club’s representative, attended a reception at Segorbe Town Hall, where he was received by the mayoress, Maria Carmen Climent.

After the parliaments and exchange of gifts, the Barça entourage moved on to Plaça de la Almudín, where 60 firecrackers were set off to celebrate the 60th anniversary. The smell of gunpowder accompanied the audience to the next stop: the gala lunch, and the culmination of the weekend's events. The president of the local supporters club, José Benedicto, welcomed the more than 300 guests, thanking them for coming to share such an important day. The Peña Barcelonista de Segorbe was the first supporters club in the Valencia region and is one of the oldest in the world, something which fills its members with pride.

Jordi Casals then stressed the importance of expressing support for Barça in this part of the world and the difficulty of keeping a supporter club in such good health for so many years, and handed over an institutional plaque as a permanent memento of the big day.
